PFC 2022: Pillow Fighting Championship crowns its first-ever champions

Pillow Fighting Championship
After the Pillow Fight Championship (PFC) held its first live, pay-per-view event on January 29, the pillow fight has made its way into the boxing ring from the bedroom.

Pillow fights have long been a part of many children's lives around the world, and they're now a part of professional sports as well. On January 29, the Pillow Fight Championship was held in Miami, Florida, with the winner receiving a $5,000 prize.

Istela Nunes, the first-ever champion, was crowned today. With their specialised pillows in place of boxing gloves, 16 men and eight women competed in the event.

In the women's final, Brazil's Nunes defeated America's Kendahl Voelker. In the men's final, Hauley Tillman defeated Marcus Brimage.

"PFC delivers all the drama of hand-to-hand combat without the gore of mixed martial arts or boxing," says PFC CEO Steve Williams.

Williams, the CEO of PFC, told Reuters, "It's not something where you sit there and laugh and feathers are flying."

"It's a serious situation. With specialised pillows, it's hardcore swinging."

He explained, "The only difference between our fights and MMA fights is that nobody gets hurt."

"Fighters do not like to be hurt, and many people do not want to see blood. They want to see healthy competition, but not at the expense of violence."
