Rolls Royce electric aircraft: Cars manufacturing giant 'Rolls-Royce' claims to have developed the world's fastest all-electric aircraft

According to the BBC, an all-electric aircraft built by famous car manufacturing brand 'Rolls-Royce' has broken two world speed records.

In November 2021, the Rolls Royce 'Spirit of Innovation' averaged 555.9 km/h (345.4 mph) over 3 km and 532.1 km/h (330 mph) over 15 km. Both experimental attempts have been certified as world records by the World Air Sports Federation. It was dubbed a "fantastic achievement" by Rolls-Royce.

It reaches a top speed of 387.4 mph (623 km/h), making it the world's fastest electric vehicle. It was not included in the official document submission. The project is part of the Accelerating the Electrification of Flight (ACCEL) project, which is backed by the UK government.

Rolls-Royce has a long history of attempting and breaking flying speed records, dating back to the Schneider Trophies in the early 1930s. In the 'Spirit of Innovation,' test pilot and Rolls-Royce Director of Flight Operations Phill O'Dell broke the previous record of more than 213.04 km/h (132 mph) set by the Siemens eAircraft powered Extra 330 LE Aerobatic aircraft in 2017.

The aircraft has a 400-kilowatt electric powertrain, which is equivalent to a 535-bhp supercar.

"This program's advanced battery and propulsion technology has exciting applications in the Advanced Air Mobility market."

"This is yet another step toward making 'jet zero' a reality, and it furthers our goal of delivering the technological breakthroughs that society requires to decarbonize air, land, and sea transportation."
