Messi is all set to join PSG on a two-year deal worth £25 million per year | Lionel Messi transfer news

Lionel Mess and FC Barcelona

Despite agreeing to a verbal contract, Lionel Messi's shocking departure from FC Barcelona has been confirmed due to economic and structural obstacles.

After a statement from the club confirming Leo's departure, the club's most valuable player will no longer be staying at his childhood club. Both the player and the club had verbally agreed to a 5-year contract, and Lionel Messi was supposed to sign it yesterday, but that didn't happen. FC Barcelona stunned Lionel Messi by telling him that signing a contract is no longer possible due to the club's financial situation.

According to FC Barcelona:
"Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this cannot happen because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish La Liga regulations)"

"As a result of this situation, Messi shall not be staying on at FC Barcelona. Both parties deeply regret that the wishes of the player and the club will ultimately not be fulfilled." club stated

"FC Barcelona wholeheartedly expresses its gratitude to the player for his contribution to the aggrandisement of the club and wishes him all the very best for the future in his personal and professional life." FC Barcelona concluded.

Lionel Messi was a free agent since 30th June and was happy to stay at the club by agreeing on a long term contract offered by Catalan club. Club president, Laporta had also pledged to keep Messi at the club but financial situation of the club demanded some big decisions and he finally took it.

Lionel Messi's future:

Lionel Messi is currently a free agent and spending his vacation in Ibiza, Spain, with his family and friends after his outstanding performances in the Copa America this year.

When Messi formally requested to leave the club in September of last year due to his disagreements with Bartomeu (FC Barcelona's president at the time), a number of clubs, including PSG and Manchester City, made contact to discuss a possible transfer. But after Bartomeu was sacked, Lionel Messi decided to stay.

Following FC Barcelona's big news yesterday, PSG is said to have made direct contact with Lionel Messi, who is a free agent. He could join Neymar, Ramos, Mbappe, and di Maria in Paris, boosting the club's chances of winning the Champions League this season. PSG is without a doubt the only club with the financial means to offer Lionel Messi a lucrative contract at the moment.
Moreover Lionel Messi was spotted enjoying holidays with some of PSG players including Neymar and di Maria recently.
Manchester City are another club who wanted to sign Leo in the past but they are currently unable to sign Lionel Messi due to their recent signing of English playmaker Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a British record fee. At his new club, Grealish will wear the number 10 shirt. Just before the news of Messi's departure from FC Barcelona, Manchester City announced his signing.
Pep Guardiola must be kicking himself for signing Grealish when he had the opportunity to sign a star Argentine player. Manchester City are also keeping a close eye on England captain Harry Kane, who is attempting to force a move to a Manchester-based club by refusing to attend Tottenham Hotspurs training sessions.

Pep can now choose between Lionel Messi and Harry Kane, giving him two options. Kane is a like-for-like replacement for Sergio Aguero after his departure from Manchester City, but Lionel Messi is simply someone who can offer a lot. So Manchester City's board must be keeping a close eye on this situation, and we're hoping for a fierce battle to sign Lionel Messi as a free agent.
In my opinion, Lionel Messi will join PSG to play alongside his former teammate and close friend Neymar as PSG has the resources to sign any player in the world. PSG would undoubtedly be the strongest team in Europe if Lionel Messi were to join them because they have already signed Hakimi, Donnarumma, and Wijnaldum this window.

PSG has reportedly offered a two-year contract worth £25 million per year after talks have been ongoing since Thursday, according to some news sources. Lionel Messi is expected to sign the contract and join his friend Neymar Jr in the near future.

Barcelona supporters are outraged by the Catalan club's behaviour, but they must understand the club's financial situation. With the money promised by La Liga, which recently announced a partnership with CVC group, Barcelona was confident in signing Messi. However, because of the controversy surrounding the CVC agreement, Barcelona no longer has the financial means to offer Messi a lucrative contract. Some of these supporters were spotted outside Camp Nou shocked and in tears last night after the news broke out.
We hope that clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and some Italian clubs will make some efforts to sign one of the greatest football players of all time, but in these difficult economic times, these clubs are in a bad financial situation.
