Katayoun Riahi and Pantea Bahram accused of "the crime of removing the hijab in public and posting photos on the internet".

Only weeks after declaring a crackdown on violations, Iran has punished two well-known actresses for uploading images of themselves disrespecting the country's dress code for women, according to local media.

According to the Tasnim news agency, Katayoun Riahi and Pantea Bahram were charged with "the crime of removing the hijab in public and posting photos on the internet" by Tehran police, who have since turned the matter over to Iran's judiciary. The two could receive fines or jail time if charged.

The Fajr International Film Festival, Iran's premier film festival, has given Bahram and Riahi a number of accolades. In November, Riahi was held in custody for over a week before being released on bond for uploading images to Instagram in support of the Amini protests in which she was seen with no headscarf. She was the first Iranian actress to share such protest-related photographs on social media.
