Australia is all set to lift the longest ever travel ban from November 2021

Australian Travel Ban update

On Friday, Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced that an 18-month travel ban on Australians will be lifted from next month, easing one of the most stringent COVID-19 restrictions in the world.

The rule of home quarantine in Australia's eight states and territories will be necessary to the reopening of the international border for citizens and permanent residents. implying that some parts of the country will reopen sooner than others.

The plan's first phase will focus on allowing citizens and permanent residents to leave Australia, with subsequent changes expected to allow foreign visitors to enter the country. Australia imposed complete ban on travel in March 2020 and since then only few people were allowed to leave or enter the country in extra ordinary subsequences.

Australians who are fully vaccinated will be able to travel abroad and return home after a seven-day quarantine, according to the plan announced on Friday. Those who have not been vaccinated will be required to stay in a hotel for 14 days when they return.

List of acceptable vaccines in Australia:

  • Pfizer
  • Moderna
  • AstraZeneca

The addition of China's Sinovac vaccine in particular is expected to give Australia's key international education sector a boost when foreign travellers from Asian countries like Pakistan, India and China are allowed to enter the country after full vaccination. This is also a relief for students who are stuck in their home countries and want to return to Australia as soon as possible.

With the Australian government taking this step in the right direction, life in Australia should soon return to normal.
